Video HowTo: Customize the Outlook Explorer menu (VSTO)

This HowTo video example opens up a series that will focus on the most common customization options for the Outlook Explorer UI. If you develop in VB.NET, here is a similar VB.NET video sample.

Let's start with the Outlook main menu. In a minute, we will show you how to:

  • Add a new menu item to the Outlook Explorer main menu and populate it with native Office controls.
  • Add a custom button to the Help menu item.
  • Add your own buttons to the File -> New menu item and define its position.

Please keep in mind that this example answers the most basic question – How to add your item to the New drop-down button on the standard Outlook toolbar.

This sample video was captured in Visual Studio 2008 (VB.NET) with Add-in Express 2009 for Office and VSTO.
