Create Office add-ins with Visual Studio 2012 Express

Today I am going to break our long-time tradition of announcing major version releases only with the announcement of the new minor update of Add-in Express for Office and .net. “What is special about this build?” you may ask me. Well, I have the answer. Apart from minor improvements and bug fixes the new build (7.2.4055) adds support for Visual Studio Express 2012 for Windows Desktop.

If you are a long-term user of Add-in Express, you have probably noticed that in the previous versions we always supported both editions – full Visual Studio and Express Edition. Until now Visual Studio 2012 Express was an exception to the rule.

Well, that annoying omission is fixed and now Add-in Express fully supports Visual Studio 2012 including C# and VB.NET of the Express Edition for Windows Desktop. You can go ahead and painlessly download this free version to try your hand at the new environment. I personally do not see any significant improvements in VS 2012 compared to Visual Studio 2010, apart from .NET Framework 4.5, which is not of great interest to us, Office add-in developers. Or maybe I am wrong and you do need 4.5 for some purpose?

Anyway, if you have a license of Add-in Express for Office and .net version 7, feel free to download a new build here. If you have any previous version, you will need to upgrade first :)

VB.NET of the Express Edition for Windows Desktop is very important and it really helps developers like me in in my .net development work.
