Add-in express Regions product?
Is this what we need to achieve...... ?

Hi Guys,

Within Microsoft Outlook (I will refer to 2007 version) we would like to put our own button in the bottom left pane of the screen where it lists "Mail","Calendar","Contacts","Tasks". When you click on that button, in the same location "Inbox" is displayed for "Mail", the main central area of the screen, we would like to put our own form/box(is this called a region too??) there.

Within this form/box/region, we would like to create items very similar to each email "object" in the normal inbox- being able to give it properties (like date, sender etc- but our own attributes). Is this possible too?

Do we need the specialised Add-in express regions product to acheive this, or does the normal Add-in express product offer what we need?

Also, if it is the new product, is this the best guide you have for achieving what we want?

Thanks

Hello,

It looks like you talk about the region shown in the section "Navigation pane regions - BottomOutlookBar and BottomNavigationPane" in http://www.add-in-express.com/add-in-net/outlook-regions.php. Is this so?

You don't need a special product to show an Advanced Outlook view and form region.

Hi Andrei- thanks for replying. Yes it would appear that is the navigation pane i wish to edit.

I have a few small questions:

1a) What is the difference between a pane and a region then? Yesterday I built a taskpane/form within Outlook, in the same location as some of your "region" examples?

1b) I guess with my idea I will be creating two regions, the navigation one in the bottom left and a main region, (replacing whatever content is in the centre of the screen)? Or is the region just the bottom left navigation and I would use a form for the main content?

2) Is there any type of "email item" like what Outlook uses for each email in the inbox- I could add to a list within a pane. Lets say for example I was a supplier of goods, then I could use each "email item" to represent an order per customer. Instead of "sender" I would have "customer" etc.

3) We have the regular Add in Express product for .NET, but I cannot seem to find any Region items where they should be located (after watching the region video). Is this likely an option which was not ticked during installation?

1a. In Add-in Express terms, an advanced Outlook region is a sub-pane, or a dock, of Outlook windows that may host native .NET forms.

1b. Please check regions WebViewPane and FolderView in http://www.add-in-express.com/add-in-net/outlook-regions.php. Is it them?

2. I'm afraid I don't follow. Can you please clarify? If you talk about adding some things to your form then this is absolutely possible.

3. You can check the section "Your First Microsoft Outlook COM Add-in" in {Add-in Express}\Docs\adxnet.pdf on your PC. Or, see http://www.add-in-express.com/creating-addins-blog/2010/10/11/outlook-navigation-pane-video-howto/.

Hi Andrei,

With regards to Q2- just like the Inbox section of Outlook has list-items of type "email" (i.e the objects contained within your inbox), do you guys offer an equivalent "list-item", for customised usage? In addition, do you have a "container" which I can add these items to, which is similar to the Outlook inbox "List"?

Have I explained myself better now?

Thanks
