"Create Setup Project" crashes VS2010
VS2010 Crashes when choosing "Create Setup Project" for Outlook adx Addin

This is my first attempt at creating a setup project for my VS2010 addin. I'm following instructions that say to choose the project, then right-click and choose "Create Setup Project". Every time I do it, Visual Studio crashes completely.

I have to get this addin onto the test server by Monday, and have no idea what to do. I've never published an addin in VS2010.

Eugene told me in another topic that there's a newer build of the adx tools available. I downloaded them, but have installed it because other projects are using them which are already deployed. Could that be the source of the problem?

I'm using Visual Studio 2010, writing an addin for Outlook 2010.
Adx build is 6.3.3052 Professional

I would greatly appreciate your help.

Hi Cathy,

I have a bunch of questions for you:
1. What OS do you use?
2. Do you run Visual Studio in the "as an administrator" mode?
3. Are you able to reproduce the issue with a newly created add-in project?
4. Did you install the latest service packs for OS, Office, Visual Studio and .net framework?

Hi Eugene,

Here are the answers to your questions.

1. Windows Server 2003 R2, Standard x64 Edition
Version 5.2 R2 (Build 3790.srv03_sp2_grd.1010190-0340 : Service Pack 2)

2. I don't normally run "as administrator", but I have administrator rights on the server I'm using.

3. Yes, it happens on brand new addins. I tried it 3 times.

4. Our system administrator says we have all the latest service packs for OS, Office and .NET framework. He's not sure about Visual Studio, but this is what I'm using:

Visual Studio - Version 10.0.30319.1 RTMRel
.NET ?Â?Ð?ã 4.0.30319 RTMRel

Thanks for your help with this.

Hi Cathy,

Could you please share your PC to me? I will take a look at the issue inline.

Eugene,

I'm developing in a Citrix environment, not on a standalone pc. Besides having security issues, I don't even know how we'd accomplish that.

ps - I was able to create an msi manually, using Project, Add, Setup Project. I'd love to be able to use your wizard, but it's not a crucial issue now.

Thanks very much for your quick responses. I really appreciate it.

Hi Cathy,

I have just figured out that you use an old build of Visual Studio 2010. Please try installing the latest service packs for Visual Studio and .net framework.
