Per-user setups won't work if Office is installed from Microsoft Store

Hi guys,

An enhancement suggestion

Just ran into this situation
https://www.reddit.com/r/Office365/comments/9sspnq/missing_entire_registry_tree_hkey_current/

Basically I was distributing a setup which I had compiled for 'per-user' installation only. The registry key for HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office was absolutely empty. adxregistrator created the sole registry key in it and it did not work.

The end user was on Office 2016, monthly update channel. (Maybe it was 2019 really). The plugin was for Outlook.

I ended up adding the same plugin manually (e.g. added adxloader.dll trough Outlook's Addin dialog). But looks like the per-machine setup would have worked?

I think that the setup procedure could at least give some warning that the setup won't work.

LMK if you guys need more information on this.

Hello Stan,

Check my blog at https://www.add-in-express.com/creating-addins-blog/2019/02/27/office-from-store-issues/. As far as I know, installing Office from Microsoft Store now ends with installing a regular Click-to-Run version. Also, we've heard about Microsoft supporters installing Click-to-Run instead of the Microsoft Store version. So, we suggest that you switch to using a Click-to-Run version.
