We can't open ... It's possible the file is already open...

Hi,
I have an issue that popped up when I upgraded add-in express. I am getting an error when I do the following:

1. open outlook
2. save an email to the desktop (a .msg file)
3. double click the msg file (outlook is still open)
4. The message opens successfully
5. Close the message window (but leave outlook open)
6. double click the msg file again

It works the first time, but the second time I open the file I get an error:
We can't open 'c:\...\test.msg'. It's possible the file is already open, or you don't have permission to open it. To check your permissions, right-click the file folder, then click Properties.

If I disable my plug-in, I don't see this error. I also did not see the error before upgrading addin-express.

Checking AddinExpress.MSO.2005.dll's versions:
8.0.4330.0 works
8.1.4350.0 broken

It's possible that I have a handle on the file somehow, but I was hoping you could shed some light on the changes between those versions. Something changed there. If I revert just the add-in express dll's everything works normally (no errors).

Any ideas?
Jeff

Andrei,

I am not seeing this error with the previous version of addin express. If it's an Outlook issue, I would think that would not matter. If I roll back to the previous addin express version (mentioned in the original post), I can open the email as many times as I like with no errors. Something seems to have changed there as well that is highlighting my particular issue.

Hello Jeff,

What build of Office 2016 are you using?

Hello Jeff,

I don't think we will be able to fix this issue. Because we won't be able to identify it in the current Outlook 2016 versions.

Not sure I understand. Something changed in Addin Express in that version as the older version works (even in the latest Outlook version). If I drop the old dll's into my project everything works properly. I would just be stuck on that version forever which is not where we want to be. Are you saying that those changes are somehow tied (or statically linked) toMS dll's and it has nothing to do with Addin Express code?

I don't see the same thing you do, I can save a message and load it multiple times with no errors, but if this is in fact a Microsoft error, I can see how you won't be able to do much about it.

Just looking for a little clarification on the issue.

Thanks!!!

Jeff,

Something changed in Addin Express in that version

This may be caused by something else. On my machine, the issue occurs in Outlook 2016 16.0.6965 with *no* add-ins enabled. This makes me think we won't be able to identify that issue using the Office version that we have installed.

I see. Thanks for the clarification! I will see if I can upgrade to that version as well and test. For now we will be forced to downgrade addin express and stay at the old version :( I hope Microsoft fixes this in a future release. Looks like they moved your post to another forum, but I don't see it (at least not yet) in the new forum.

If anything changes I'll keep you advised, but for now we won't be able to upgrade.
