Is it possible to use advanced .NET techniques in Add-In code? For example, may I use WPF controls or DirectX-based 3D graphics in a side bar? What side effects should one expect?

Hi Laszlo,

When talking about Explorer bars in IE, you should understand that they belong to the IE domain: it creates them, handles windows procedures for them etc. What Add-in Express does for an explorer bar to show up is setting required registry entries etc.

I don't see any restrictions on using WPF or 3D graphics on an explorer bar. I've tested showing a WPF control in IE 8 (Protected Mode) with no problem. I'm sorry, we haven't tested DirectX graphics on explorer bars.
