Hi,

I was using the VS2003 ADX version, and had successfully created an add-in for word and excel. I transitioned this to the VS2005 version today, and cannot get my add-in to appear any more (although it says registration is successful). Also, when I created a new add-in from scratch, it also does not appear properly any more.

Finally, when adding a new ADX project in the 2005 version, it no longer creates the setup project. Is this by design?

I have already re-installed the VS2005 version, as well as rebuilt the projects many times, all to no avail. I've also tested the setup project on a second computer, and that didn't work. At this point I assume this must be some sort of code issue in the new version of ADX. Any thoughts on how to resolve this?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris.

Have you ever installed VSTO for VS 2005? If yes, I think you need to update your PC with a new SP for Office 2003. See the following article from Microsoft to learn why Word and Excel add-ins don't work.

Finally, when adding a new ADX project in the 2005 version, it no longer creates the setup project. Is this by design?

Now ADX doesn't create a new setup project automatically.
We will support automatically generated setup projects as soon as Microsoft has fixed several critical bugs in the Visual Studio .NET 2005 object model corresponding to setup projects. ADX adds the Setup.txt file to all ADX based projects. Read this file to learn how you can create the setup manually.

Sorry Chris. I forgot to give you a link. Here is the article and update for Office 2003:

Eugene,

Thanks for the info about the setup projects; I had not noticed the new setup.txt, since I wasn't looking for any new files in this release! You might want to make greater mention of that somewhere, or maybe I'm just blind...

Sergey,

Thanks also for your info. I applied the hotfix you mentioned, and this did indeed fix the problem. However, I have never installed VSTO for VS2005 or otherwise (I don't generally do a lot of Office development). So, it would appear that no add-ins developed with ADX for VS2005 will work on machines with Office 2003 at present. Is there anything you guys can do about this, or is it just another bug from MS that you can't work around?

Thanks for all your help,
Chris

Chris, I am a little bit confused. Can ADX based add-ins be run on your PC now after you applied the hotfix?

Sergey,

I misspoke, sorry. I meant to say that "no add-ins developed with ADX for VS2005 will work on machines with Office 2003 without this hotfix." The add-in now works great, as it did before (love your product, by the way), but it would appear that any users with Office 2003 are going to have to apply that hotfix (which requires the CD, incidentally, making that even more of a problem for some of them).
