WinMail crashes on startup (Vista)

Hi Add-in Express team!

Hope you'll be able to help me this time as you always did.

I have installed a plugin for WinMail/Outlook Express on my Vista Home edition machine. But when I start WinMail it crashes on the startup. A dialog box appears with the following message: The application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library.

I am sure it is caused by my addin, as no sooner had I terminated launcher.exe process than WinMail started up with no problems. But of course the plugin would not load in this case.

I have tried it with both the UAC on and off. To no avail. Note that on some of our test machines, both Vista and XP, the plugin works just fine.

DebugView debugger generates the following messages:
[3872] Invalid parameter passed to C runtime function.
[3872] Invalid parameter passed to C runtime function.

The EventViewer contains the following event info:
Faulting application WinMail.exe, version 6.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x47918ed8, faulting module msvcrt.dll, version 7.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x4791a727, exception code 0x40000015, fault offset 0x00053adb, process id 0x3c4, application start time 0x01c9f034e839f5c0.

Please help me out with this one. Maybe there is some bug in the adxoeloader.dll?

Best regards,
Andrey.

Hi Andrei:

Yes, the affected PC has the latest updates installed. Unfortunately, I cannot give more detailed debugging information.

Andrey,

If you use the latest Add-in Express build, we would like to look at your add-in solution (or any other solution that reproduces this behavior). Please send it to our support e-mail address (readme.txt).

Hi Andrei:

I have sent my solution project to your support email. In the meantime
I have done some investigation on my own and discovered that WinMail crashes
due to some conflict in file msvcrt.dll, version 7.0.6001.18000. msvcrt is Microsoft's C runtime library. Interestingly, I searched my system for this file with this specific version and found it on a partition dedicated to the second operating system - Windows Server 2008. I have removed the culprit partition along with those file, but WinMail still continued crashing with reference to the msvcrt.dll, version 7.0.6001.18000, even though it has already been removed.

What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks,
Andrey

Hi Add-in Express Team again:

I have resolved my issue!!! This is a lot of weight off my shoulders for
I have been tackling this problem for quite some time. Apparently, the crash was caused by the version of launcher.exe bundled together with Add-in express 2008 product, which is 3.2.2. This version of the launcher caused WinMail to crash on the startup on my Vista Home machine. I have downloaded version 3.2.3 from Nektra's website and it now works!

Thanks for your help

Regards,
Andrey
