Morning,
We currently have our eyes cast on .NET 5, as I?Â?Ð?ém sure many of your users have. Add-In Express is one of our core third-parties so we were wondering what plans you have for .NET 5. Is it something you are looking to support or even able to support as I know the COM registration was an issue with .NET Core?
Thank you,
Patrick |

Hello Patrick,
Sorry for the delay; it took us some time to look into the details.
.NET 5 is a new version of .NET Core. This is why Add-in Express can't support it.
Below is a short version of the article at https://www.infoworld.com/article/3394865/net-5-what-the-merger-of-net-framework-and-net-core-means.html:
.NET Framework wasn?Â?Ð?ét advancing as quickly as .NET Core. A decisive move from the nearly twenty-year-old Framework to the newer Core was inevitable. .NET 5 signals the end of development for the .NET Framework. .NET Core 3 is/was the last release to port .NET Framework APIs. There won?Â?Ð?ét be any additional Framework APIs in .NET 5.

Hello Nir and Patrick,
Actually, we've found out that at least some of our first-time fears didn't come true: it looks like we can register an add-in, load the .NET runtime, load the add-in, etc. We will check whether a .NET Framework and .NET 5 add-ins can coexist. Also, we will check whether Add-in Express panes will work with .NET 5. This research project will take some time. I suppose I will post our results here in several weeks.
To All,
If you want to get notified about this, drop a "Me too" note here. If the research takes more time than I expect and the topic becomes closed due to inactivity (usually, 30 days), write me using the contact form at https://www.add-in-express.com/support/askus.php and I'll reopen the topic.

Thanks Andrei, seeing as .NET 5 RTM is not out just yet I think it's totally fine (even if you're still working on it and it's out it's fine :)
Thanks for looking into it. |

Hi Andrei,
Thanks for taking the time to look into this. It would be good to see Add-in Express in .NET 5.
If you ever wanted, we would be happy to do some testing for you. We have a very extensive add-in which should give some thorough testing.
Let me know,
Patrick |
