Good Morning!

I am having an issue installing an Outlook Add-In on Windows XP Professional. I have had a look through other posts that have pointed to enabling IIS and installing .NET Framework 4, all to no avail.

This is the error that I am receiving:

Hello Chris,

I suppose you run the per-user add-in installer using the standard user's permissions. If so, you need to start the installer by running setup.exe, not the .MSI. Please make sure that you get the UAC warning right after running setup.exe; getting it at some later stage (e.g. while the installer copies files) is an indication of a probelm. And of course, you get the UAC warning only if UAC is turned on.

Could you please check if the installer creates adxregistrator.log? By default, the file is located in {My Documents}\Add-in Express\adxregistrator.log in the profile of the user who runs the installer.

Hi Andrei,

Tried running Setup.exe, it shown the same error. I am attempting to install it onto an XP 32bit machine, so no UAC. I am installing it through a system admin account with admin permissions.

I've also had a look for the log file but it wasn't there.

Please check if the .NET 4.X installed on that machine is the full or Client Profile flavour. Does your add-in use the same edition?

Hi Andrei,

I checked the version installed - It is .NET Framework Full. However, I also checked the target framework in the project and it was 4.5 - I changed it and tried again, but nothing.

I have spent the last hour starting the project again from scratch with the target framework as 4 and loaded it onto the XP machine - still nothing. I ran another log as shown below, as you can see, its minus the Framework errors.

It is however still throwing up a FatalError following DIRCA_CheckFX. Do I need to obtain a CA Certificate and apply it? I am creating a setup project through Visual Studio Installer, is this causing a problem?

Chris,

Windows XP is not supported by .NET Framework 4.5, see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/8z6watww%28v=vs.110%29.aspx.

To support Windows XP, you need to use .NET 4.0.
