Can I safely read files under the "Documents" directory in protected mode?

Can I safely read files under the "Documents" directory in protected mode?

Hi,

I've been reading "Understanding and Working in Protected Mode Internet Explorer" page, and would like to know if I can read (not write) files under the "Documents" directory without any issue and not running as Administrator.
