Could not find file 'C:\Program Files\Add-in Express\Add-in Expess .NET for Internet Explorer\Bin\AddinExpress.IE.dll

I am running:
Windows XP SP3 (logged in as an administrator account)
Visual Studio Professional 2010

I am using Add-in Express 2011 for Internet Explorer, Standard. I run setup.exe, enter my activation details, which are successful. Then installation continues, and I get the following error:

mscorlib
Could not find file 'C:\Program Files\Add-in Express\Add-in Expess .NET for Internet Explorer\Bin\AddinExpress.IE.dll

I click OK, and I get the following message:
There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

Please let me know how to resolve this issue.

Thanks!

Hello Jared,

Please try the suggestions below:

Solving Installation Problems
Make sure you are an administrator on the PC.

On Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 2008 Server, set UAC to its default level.
In Control Panel | System | Advanced | Performance | Settings | Data Execution Prevention, set the "... for essential Windows programs and services only" flag.

Remove the following registry key, if it exists:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Add-in Express\{product identifier} {version} {package}

Run setup.exe, not .MSI.

Finally, use the Automatic Activation option in the installer windows.

Does it help?

Thanks for the tips. I did as you said, except I am not able to do online activation as the computer does not have access to the internet. Offline activation is successful. Now I am getting a new error:

"Error writing to file: C:\Program Files\Add-in Express\Add-in Express .NET for InternetExplorer\Docs\Add-in Express Class Reference for VS 2010.url. Verify that you have access to that directory."

Try Again or Cancel buttons

I click try again and same error. Very strange. I have checked, and that directory does exist, and the file exists as well. Clicking Cancel aborts the installation.

Please help.

Thanks!

Hello,

Are you really an administrator on that PC? Have you run setup.exe or .MSI? What is the state of UAC?

Make sure that the registry key mentioned above is deleted before running setup.exe.

Hi Andrei,
is there any way to minimise the size of AddinExpress.IE.dll. My app is ending up with a size of 4.25MB. I want to make it less than 3MB.

Thanks
Rafiq

Hi Rafiqul,

Mmm, I can't imagine how to achieve this.

Andrei,

Yes, I am definitely an administrator. In Control Panel, User Accounts, I am listed as a "Computer administrator".

I ran setup.exe.

There is no UAC, I'm running Windows XP.

The registry key was deleted.

I get a new error sometimes, it is:

"Error writing to file: C:\Program Files\Add-in Express\Add-in Express .NET for Internet Explorer\Docs\Add-in Express Class Reference for VS 2010.url. Verify that you have access to that directory"

So weird....please help!

Thanks!

Hello,

Please check these things:
- free space at the hard drive,
- you can create a file in Program Files

Is the sytem properly updated?

Yes, I checked all those things. Gave up and switched to a Windows 7 machine. It now installs just fine.

Thank you
