Hi, Andrei

I have done my homework.

I created a setup project, not exactly as you indicated, but from the deployment videos on the ADX site.

I put a copy of the setup file on a shared folder (accessible to anyone).

I am very (pleasantly)surprised!

I installed the add-in on my computer.
When I open Excel, the add-in works PERFECTLY.

I also installed the add-in on 3 other computers in my workplace.
It works perfectly on all 3 computers.

--------

I am now more puzzled than before.

Why does my add-in work when installed from setup file, but does not register using debug in Visual Studio?

Hope you can help, as I need the registration from VS during development work.

Best Regards,
Leon

Hello Leon,

Uninstall the add-in. In the Visual Studio IDE, register the add-in and copy all the contents of the Output window here. Also, make sure in the Error List window, the Errors, Warnings and Messages buttons are pressed. Do you have any warnings?

Andrei,

There are no errors at all during Build, or Register, or Debug.

During all the time I was struggling with the problem, Visual Studio NEVER displayed an error.

The only error was at design time while I was changing icons on the buttons.
Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation

Here is the output from Build:

------ Rebuild All started: Project: HotPotato, Configuration: Debug Any CPU ------
HotPotato -> D:\HOT POTATO - DEV4 - Icons only\HotPotato\bin\Debug\HotPotato.dll
========== Rebuild All: 1 succeeded, 0 failed, 0 skipped ==========

In the Error List, the 3 tabs indicate respectively:
0 Error
0 Warnings
0 Messages

------
Even though there are absolutely no errors during Build, Register or Debug, the add-in is NOT Registered in Excel.

Please send me this project (or any other project reproducing the issue) to the support email address; find it in {Add-in Express installation folder}\readme.txt. Please make sure your email contains a link to this topic.

Leon,

I wasn't able to register your add-in. I've created a setup project and although it does install correctly and although all the registry keys are in their place, the add-in doesn't load. I've uninstalled it, set RegisterForAllUsers=False on the add-in module, re-registered the project and everything goes smoothly; an installer created works as well. I assume the issue is caused by your environment: in some way, it ignores the keys Add-in Express creates in HKLM; the explanation is shaky but I don't have any other.

PS. I've uninstalled the add-in you installed; it didn't work for me either.
PS2. I've repaired VS2010. BTW, I strongly suggest that you install SP1; this may fix the issue.
