I cannot know the answer to your question. Everything depends on Microsoft and their decisions.
Time works against us: the more they develop features available for JavaScript add-ins, the more projects switch to using that technology. On the other hand, the number of serious COM Add-in projects is so big that they can't simply end .NET Framework while comparable options are not available for JS-based add-ins. VBA is an example of a similar technology and it is still alive.
