Hi,

Today I downloaded the new Add-in Express version (6.3.3052). When trying to edit some of my ribbon controls in the designer I keep getting "Out of system resources" exceptions. It is enough to click on a ribbon tab control in the designer and after that Visual Studio (version 2010) stops responding and I have to close down Visual Studio to be able to use Windows at all...
Is there some log anywhere I can provide to you?

Hi Rikard,

What OS do you use? Could you please organize a remote session? I will take a look at the issue online.

Hi,

I'm using:

Windows 7 64-bit (version 6.1.7600)
Visual Studio 2010 (version 10.0.30319.1)
.Net 4 (version 4.0.30319)

I will investigate the possibility to organize a remote session.

Hi Rikard,

1. Is the UAC (User Account Control) enabled in Windows 7?
2. Do you run Visual Studio in the "as an administrator" mode? Please read more about this feature in the Always run a program in administrator mode article.

The UAC is not enabled. I am local administrator on my machine - this must be the same thing as running Visual Studio in administrator mode isn't it?

Hi Rikard,

Please try to enable the UAC and then run Visual Studio in the "as an administrator" mode. Does it help?

No, It does not help. The only difference is that the error "Out of system resources" does come much quicker and it doesn't seem to hang the whole computer which it did before.

Everything starts when I try to change the size property on a "Ribbon button" from "Large" to "Regular". Before I change the property I can use the Add-in Express designer, but afterwards I get the "Out of system resources" from Visual Studio. It does not happen on every button though... After the error is raised, it is enough to mark the ribbon tab containing the button which causes the error to get the "Out of system resources" error message again.

If I undo my changes, I can use the designer again.

Hi Rikard,

Could you please send a sample add-in project which can reproduce the issue to me? Please use the support e-mail address (see readme.txt for details).

Hi Rikard,

Thank you for providing me with a sample add-in project. This is a bug. We have reproduced the issue on our side and filed it in our bug-tracking system under #2310.

Thank you for pointing this to me!

Hi, is there any work around available? For the moment I'm stuck in my development. On my other development machine, I can't even open the designer without getting an Exception...
