Hello Dan,

Does "Control Panel | Programs and Features" report the new version of the add-in is installed? Or it shows the old one is installed?

That means something is wrong with the setup project itself?

Ya, that is my guess too. But what? It's a new setup project created from scratch. Next thing to try is the addin project and start a clean solution to see where it goes wrong.

I can't use more time on this for now, i have to use ClickOnce even if that doesn't work well, but it works.

Would it help to escalate to core developers and maybe get someone to find the problem and fix the solution? I'm at a loss here as what to do.

Hello Dan,

I suggest that you google for the possible reasons and solutions of the exception from your first post; see e.g. https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=Microsoft.xrm.sdk+could+not+be+loaded.

Also, our guys suggest that you check if there's a rollback during installation and you you don't see it because this is a fast action; the result of the rollback is the old assembly left installed. You can try to start MSIEXEC.EXE in this way: MSIEXEC.EXE /L*v log.txt /x {path\}{the .MSI file name here}; see also https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/desktop/Msi/command-line-options.

We're moving til Visual Studio 2019, and the current setup project is not supportet. We will abandon MSI Deployment for a while and restart the effort when our project is leaving beta testing. Thanks for your help on this so far. We're keeping ClickOnce for now...

Hello Dan,

Yes, I'll post a note here when a build supporting VS 2019 is published.
