Hi Andrei,
In Outlook 2016 only, when an ADXOlForm has inspector layout InspectorRegion for olMail types, if an e-mail is already open in an inspector, opening that same message by double clicking, will crash Outlook (e.g. process exits) or make it unusable (errors pop-up for every inspector opened until restart).
I have already opened a ticket on this issue, ID: 321579455, but have not had a response and was hoping you could help escalate.
I reproduced the issue with a bare-bones add-in express addin with latest adx version, that does nothing but draw a label.
I attached a video demonstration, source code project as well as an msi installer to the ticket.
Your help is greatly appreciated, this is affecting a lot of my customers.

Hello Jon,
Sorry for the delay; I was meant to write you the below but missed the time to do this.
What Outlook build are you using? Is it Monthly Channel? Insider?
We cannot reproduce the crash. Would it be possible for us to access a machine where the issue is reproducible? We have 1.5 hrs to day for a remote.

Hey Andrei,
I repro'd with 16.0.10228.20080 32-bit and a lot of my customers getting the error are on that version too.. but it seems that it happens with other builds, like 16.0.10228.20104.
We can do a remote session today if you have zoom/logmein or some other way for us to do a screen share.

I suggest using TeamViewer. In this case, you need to send your session ID and password to the support email address.

Any updates to this Andrei?
The Microsoft Office 2016 update to version 16.0.10228.20104 is being distributed more widely..and I'm seeing more and more of these 'Object disposed' crashes.
Is there any way to mitigate the problem? Id rather my add-in stop functioning, than completely killing the user's Outlook process. I'm starting to get a lot of angry customers.
Thanks!

Hello Jon,
Yes, we have some news. In a minute, I'll send you an assembly for testing.

I can confirm the fix works! Will the dll you sent me be the final updated one? E.g. can I use that one.. or should I wait for it to be released? |

Hello Jon,
You can use that assembly. Note that although the assembly fixes that crash, there's a potential issue that has no solution: if there are several panes shown in the inspector window in a certain order, they will be shown in the default order after you activate the inspector. This is a reaction of Add-in Express to Outlook deleting and re-creating the Outlook inspector window when you activate the inspector: Add-in Express removes the panes and then re-creates them. Seemingly, this issue exists in Outlook 2016 version 1808 build 10214 and above; this information requires verification.
