I wanted to know if there is any way that I can have a customized ribbon with a custom add- in for Word Online?
If yes, then what are the ways I am expected to go about? If no, then can I know why?

As you know, Add-in Express is purposed for creating COM add-ins for the Desktop versions of Microsoft Office applications. To extend Online versions you can use Office add-ins, please have a look at the following MSDN article:
