Is it possible to write to the splash screen my own status (say I'm loading something on initialization and want to let the user know about it).
This is the splash screen I'm talking about:

Hello Nir,

Office doesn't let you customize the splash screen. It isn't mentioned in the object model.

Thanks Andrei,
I didn't mean customize it, just writing to it. I can see sometimes that the splash would write a status like "add-in xxx loading" or something of that sort.
If it's not in the object model I can only assume it's done internally by Office itself somehow.
It wasn't a critical question, was just wondering.

Nir,

Writing to it is a variant of "to customize". )

Yes, they do this themselves; you cannot influence this.
