Hi guys,
I have a strange behaviour with an MSI setup. The setup shows an error dialogue stating "volume c is currently unavailable. please select another one".

Then in the next window the installer tells the user to restart it, and then when the installer is started the second time it sometimes works. Sometimes also a third try is neccessary.

Do you have any idea what might cause this error?

See this screenshot (I had to remove the product name):

I am using the most current Addin Express loader.

Hello Stephan,

I've never met such a situation. Does an unmodified setup project created using the Add-in Express Setup Project wizard demonstrate the same behavior?

Hi Andrej,
unfortunately, I do not know because the error cannot be reproduced. I only got it once and that was once in over 50 installations. However the client says that 50% of installations make this error. If you run the setup for the second time, the problem is fixed automatically.

Do you have any idea what might cause it or what I could do? The installer uses a class which changes the registry, and reads the string from a config file. However it does not even get that far, because the message comes *before* the setup.

Kind Regards
Stephan

Hi Stephan,

I would suggest googling. For instance, at http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/29036213-2b32-4814-bb2a-8b8784575f94/setup-project-default-drive-is-currently-unavailable they seem to talk about using hard-coded paths and/or volume letters in the installer.

Hello Andrej,
I already did that and checked each and every result (there aren't too many). However, I do not set an installpath, it is "[AppDataFolder][Manufacturer]\[ProductName]", so there is no hard disk or path set.

Kind Regards
Stephan

Maybe, you pass something to custom actions. I would suggest checking the .vdproj file itself.
