I need to read and change (not write new) values in the user's registry, changing and reading the keys that the installation of the add-in is creating. Do I need to follow the instructions provided in the article for Protected Mode?

Hi Michael,

If you need to do this from the add-on, then you definitely must follow them. If, however, you do this from a custom action, then the Protected Mode API doesn't apply.
